Korais did not only teach a method of social coexistence; he was also a sensitive and learned scholar of Greek civilization from antiquity to his times and made a big impression to his western admirers and with his theories on language, where again he seeks the “middle way” between the convictions of conservative scholars and popular usage. In the language question as well, the compromise of Korais springs from the democratic nature and respect to the tradition of the people, as understood by the Enlightenment, before the fierceness of romanticism. The spirit of the enlightened teacher led him to the theory of purifying the “vulgar’ language with the help of classical texts and the correction of its vocabulary. However, this way, without realizing it, he opened the way to the method used by conservatives a few years later to shape katharevousa”. (p.  175)
