“And Doucas first, although he is classified among the representatives of the conservative teaching tradition, he did not believe in obsolete teaching methods, that is reading psalms and hymns. The archaism that characterized him was not the product of a reactionary mind. The restoration of ancient Greek meant for him the implementation of the linguistic theories of the Enlightenment in Greek circumstances. So, he is a supporter of the views that were considered absolutely progressive at that time”.  (p.  471)

On January 15th 1820 he writes from Bucharest a long letter to Ali pasha […]. As far as we know it is one among very rare cases where the scholar from Epirus expresses his opinion in a written text in demotic and it is demonstrated that he uses it equally well with katharevousa. But the content of the letter itself is very interesting. Knowing the matter in depth, Doucas does not find it difficult to elaborate the appropriate arguments to prove to Ali pasha that the establishment of the school is for the benefit “of his Highness and the faithful Zagorites”.
